Bowlers-led MI Emirates crush Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in ILT20
ABU DHABI: MI Emirates bowlers ran through home side Abu Dhabi Knight Riders’ batting unit and powered their side to a thumping nine-wicket victory in the sixth match of the ILT20 here on Tuesday.
Put into bat first, the Knight Riders batting lineup folded for a paltry total of 95 despite Andre Russell’s counterattacking 48-run knock.
The home side failed to recover from a dismal start and kept losing wickets at an alarming rate to consequently slip to 59/9.
West Indian all-rounder Russell played a counterpunching knock and went after the MI Emirates bowlers.
Russell smashed three boundaries and four sixes on his way to top score for the Knight Riders with a 25-ball 48.

He also put together a one-sided 10th-wicket partnership with Josh Little (5) and added 36 runs to the total before finally perishing on the first delivery of the 15th over.
Trent Boult and Muhammad Rohid led the bowling attack for MI Emirates with three wickets each, followed by Akeal Hosein, who bagged two.
In return, MI Emirates comfortably chased down the modest 96-run target for the loss of just one wicket and 71 balls to spare.
Emirates openers Kusal Mendis and Muhammad Waseem gave the side a flourishing start to the pursuit as their stand yielded 42 runs before being halted in the fifth over by Matiullah Khan.
Matiullah got rid of Mendis with a fuller delivery on middle and off. Mendis went hard after the ball but handed it a straightforward catch to Sunil Narine.

Skipper Nicholas Pooran then joined Waseem at the crease and the pair made sure to lead MI Emirates to glory without any further hiccups.
Pooran was the core aggressor of the match-winning 54-run stand, scoring a quickfire 39 not out in just 16 balls, laced with one boundary and five sixes.
Waseem, on the other hand, scored an anchoring 26 off 20, hitting two boundaries and a six.
The nine-wicket victory lifted MI Emirates to the top of the ILT20 standings with four points in three matches while Abu Dhabi Knight Riders remained fifth with two points in two matches.
