Madhevere powers Zimbabwe to 79/5 against South Africa in rain-affected clash

HOBART: Zimbabwean all-rounder Wessly Madhevere played a defiant knock of 18-ball 35 and powered his side to a decent total of 79/5 in the rain-affected Super 12s Group 2 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

Zimbabwean all-rounder scripted an astonishing fight for his team after a dreadful start and bolstered the side to put on a commendable total after the contest was reduced to nine overs per side.

Batting first, Zimbabwe suffered an enthralling attack from the South African pace attack which halted them to 19/4 in the fourth over.

Following the slump, Madhevere and Milton Shumba stitched a valiant fifth-wicket partnership and added 60 runs in just 32 deliveries.

Shumba who played the anchoring role with a 20-ball 18 fell on the final delivery of the innings to Anrich Nortje.

Madhevere, on the other hand, top-scored for Zimbabwe with an unbeaten 35 off just 18 balls with the help of four boundaries and a six.

Lungi Ngidi led the South African bowling attack with two wickets while Wayne Parnell and Nortje struck out a batter each.
