Akhlaq hits ton as WAPDA edge PTV in President’s Trophy

KARACHI: Muhammad Akhlaq’s century in the run chase powered the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to a three-wicket victory over Pakistan Television (PTV) on day two of round seven of the President’s Trophy. WAPDA beat PTV by three wickets on day two as they chased a target of 225 runs in 41 overs. Earlier in the day, PTV continued from their overnight score of 51-2 and lost Mohammad Suleman (20, 26b, 3x4s) early on. Muhammad Shahzad (53, 84b, 11x4s) struck a fine half-century before being dismissed by Asif Afridi. Taimur Khan (38, 64b, 6x4s) and Uzair Mumtaz (30, 79b, 2x4s, 1×6) contributed with crucial runs but were removed by Khalid Usman. Virat Kohli to miss first two Tests against England

NEW DELHI: India’s ace batter Virat Kohli has withdrawn from the opening two Tests of the five-match home series against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Monday. According to the details, Kohli opted out of the first two Tests, scheduled from January 25 to February 6 due to personal reasons. The star batter is likely to link up with the squad ahead of the third Test, scheduled to take place in Rajkot from February 15 to 19. ABU DHABI: Nicholas Pooran’s half-century was followed by Tim David’s last-over heroics to lead MI Emirates to sink Gulf Giants by 18 runs in the fourth match of the ILT20 here on Sunday. MI Emirates lost opening batter Will Smeed in the second over after being put into bat by Gulf Giants, however, Mohammad Waseem and Andre Fletcher stabilised the innings with a 41-run second-wicket stand.
