Umer Rashid appointed Pakistan assistant bowling coach for Asia Cup

LAHORE: Umer Rashid, one of the highly-rated bowling coaches at the National High Performance Centre (NHPC), has been included in the Pakistan men’s side coaching panel as assistant to the fast bowling coach for the Asia Cup. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Umer has been added to the players’ support personnel list on the recommendation of head coach Saqlain Mushtaq. Umer has worked in the development of all the national side fast bowlers since their early days, including helping Mohammad Hasnain with his bowling action.  In the new role with the national side, Umer will support Pakistan fast bowling coach Shaun Tait in the United Arab Emirates for Asia Cup 2022. PCB hires five foreign coaches for Pathway Cricket Programme

LAHORE: Five elite foreign coaches have been appointed for the PCB Pathway Cricket Programme to provide specialist training to the participating players under the coaching project with the first phase set to kick off later this week in Lahore. According to the details, Gordon Parsons (South Africa), Julian Fountain (New Zealand), Julian Wood (England), Nicholas Webb (England) and Toby Radford (England) are expected to arrive in Lahore in the next seven to 10 days and will work with teenagers from next month under PCB’s Pathway Cricket Programme. Pakistan’s participation in Tenpin Bowling World Cup in doubt

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Sports Board’s (PSB) hesitance to issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) to the players and officials of the national tenpin bowling team put Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming Tenpin bowling World Cup in Australia in jeopardy.   President Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF) Ijaz ur Rehman on Thursday claimed that the federation had written a letter to the PSB two weeks ago for the issuance of the NOC but they received no reply from the board. “Pakistan’s team participation in the upcoming Tenpin Bowling World Cup is in doubt. PSB has still not given the NOC to the federation,” he said. “The federation wrote a letter to the Sports Board two weeks ago for the NOC,” he added. Viv Richards joins Miandad as Pakistan Junior League mentor

LAHORE: Two legendary cricketers, Sir Vivian Richards and Javed Miandad are set to reunite in October at Pakistan Junior League (PJL) after Pakistan Cricket Board appointed the former as a mentor for one of the teams. According to the details, PCB named the former West Indian batting legend Richards as a league mentor for the inaugural edition of the sort of its sort U19 T20 League. Richards will join Miandad, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Daren Sammy and Imran Tahir as other mentors. The first-ever PJL tournament will run from October 6 to 21 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore featuring six teams. Pakistan Army to assist Qatar for FIFA World Cup 2022 security

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army will provide security assistance to Qatar to host the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022. The federal cabinet on Monday approved the Pakistan Army-Qatar agreement to provide the Gulf country with the security arrangements for the extravaganza. The gulf country will be hosting the mega football event for the first time, scheduled from November 20 to December 18. The development came as Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif prepared to depart on Tuesday for his first trip to Qatar at the invitation of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The premier’s trip to Qatar will be his first since taking office in April 2022. A high-level delegation, including important members of his cabinet, will accompany him amid his visit. LAHORE: The president of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan Muhammad Akram Sahi announced on Tuesday that the federation will send Commonwealth Games gold medalist Arshad Nadeem and other athletes for international training. Akram, in a press conference with Pakistan’s star athlete Arshad, praised the top performing athletes in the recently concluded Commonwealth and Islamic Solidarity Games, while announcing to facilitate them with the international training. “The federation will send Arshad Nadeem, Shajar Abbas and other athletes for training abroad,” said the Athletics Federation of Pakistan President. “We need to improve Arshad Nadeem’s technique, which would help him in the future,” he maintained.
